How We Keep Tails Wagging

FAQ

I experienced my very first doggy daycare in Springfield, Missouri in the early 2000s, and it changed my life.

As much as I adored it, I knew my dog loved it even more. He got to be with his friends, play all day and come home worn out and happy.

Eventually I landed back home in Oklahoma City. Believe it or not, in those days, the idea of doggy daycare didn’t even exist around here. Sure, there was boarding, but it was nothing like what we have today. The best we could do back then was to trade dog sitting with neighbors.

Fast forward a few years. I had a young child at home and another on the way. I was at a major life crossroads, unsure of what to do next. I felt stuck.

Then one night, I had a dream.

In the dream, I was running my own dog daycare, with boarding, grooming and play areas – everything I had missed and more! I woke up and started telling people what I was going to do: Open the first doggy daycare in Oklahoma City.

The response wasn’t what I’d hoped. “You’re a crazy pregnant lady!” they said. “Why not open a Subway?” was another suggestion. But I was determined.

By 2006 I opened the first Vera’s Posh Paws in Moore. Since dog daycare was still a foreign concept, I had to canvas parking lots, the airport, nearby neighborhoods and even go door-to-door educating people on the idea.

Luckily, it caught on. By 2015, we opened the second location in northwest Oklahoma City.

Today, dogs love us even more than the pawrents do. Our pups reap the benefits of exercise, enrichment activities and socialization while having lots of fun romping & playing with their furry friends. And, on more than one occasion, a dog has escaped his home and made it all the way here! That may be the best endorsement we can get!

Vera’s Posh Paws FAQ

What should I expect on dog interview day?

Interview day is always free. We ask that you leave your pup with us for at least three hours. This gives them ample time to explore our facility and get comfortable with their new friends and staff members. It also gives us the necessary time to evaluate their temperament.

They will spend the first hour of the day interacting with male and female staff. After an hour, your dog will be introduced slowly to other members of the pack. Group play isn’t for every dog and that’s okay. That’s why we do this temperament test. The safety of all dogs in our care is our top priority. With a good understanding of your dog’s size, temperament and preferences, we can appropriately place them in the right room and group for daycare and boarding!

What if my dog doesn’t pass the temperament test?

Not all dogs like group play. That’s okay! Every dog is different, and no two circumstances are the same. Our staff is trained to observe your dog and their unique needs. Private or limited play is always available for dogs who do not do well in a group play setting.

What can my dog expect during their stay?

Your dog will spend the majority of the day in one of our spacious, supervised play areas where they can make friends, enjoy the fresh air and have fun with our enrichment activities. Dogs are separated into 5 different indoor/outdoor play areas based on their size, temperament and activity levels. We also maintain a staff-to-dog ratio of 1:15, ensuring safe, compatible play times.

What About Food?

You may bring your own food from home for your pup, or we have food available for purchase.

Are unspayed or unneutered dogs allowed?

If your dog is over six months old, they must be spayed/neutered in order to interact with other dogs. If your pet is not spayed or neutered, they are still welcome, but will enjoy private play time.

What is “private play time”?

Private play means that your dog will have their own private room during the day. They will be let out into the yard to play, do their business and get some fresh air when other dogs are in their rooms for naps/lunch. Private or limited play is available for pups who have not been spayed or neutered, have behavioral or health issues or if your dog shows us they just need a break for whatever reason!

Will I receive updates during their stay?

All our yards have indoor and outdoor cameras so you can check in on your pup during their stay. You will be able to keep an eye on them in yards during play times. You can also download the “ODOGGY” app on your mobile device for $1.99/month or $4.99/year.

We want you to have a worry-free experience while away, so we may call you if we have a quick question or if there is anything we need to discuss.

Does Dog Daycare come with Boarding?

Yes! Daycare play is included with your boarding price. Each day your pup will go out in the yard and play with his friends. They will go into their private rooms for meals and rest times.

You can drop off as early as 7AM on your first day and pick us as late as 11AM on the final day of boarding. There will be a late charge of $22 to cover the half day of daycare on the last day if you pick up after 11AM. However, this fee will be waived if you add a bath or groom to their final day!

I have more than one dog. Can they stay together in one room?

Absolutely! You can check our pricing list here if you are boarding multiple dogs together.

Can I bring items from home?

Of course, but please don’t bring any rawhide chews – these pose a choking risk. We want your furry friend to be as comfortable as possible. Dogs like having items with them that smell like home, so a blanket or bed is perfectly acceptable. Please ensure that all home items are clearly labeled with your pet’s first and last name.

We serve quality Diamond Naturals brand dog food, but you are always welcome to bring your pup's favorite food or treats from home.

Each dog will be assigned a cubby (14inH x14inW x1ftD). Please make sure bags/food containers will fit in their cubby. Please do not bring food containers weighing more than 15 lbs unless your dog stays with us for more than 7 days. Prescription medications need to be in their original bottles with a proper label.

Will my dog be able to have a bath or haircut during their stay?

Of course! Our resort offers full-service grooming for all breeds. You can request a grooming appointment for your pet online or just let us know at drop-off if you would like to add a grooming service to their stay.

How soon in advance should I book my pet's reservation?

We highly suggest booking your stay as soon as possible. Please remember that our busiest times are during Spring Break, over the summer and during the Holiday Season. Reservations can be adjusted if something changes later, so book early to secure your spot. We don’t want your pup to miss out – book their reservation today!

Do you offer full grooming?

We do! You can bring your pup in for full-service grooming or add it to their daycare or boarding stay. Learn more here.

Can my dog be groomed while they’re boarded or at daycare?

Of course! You can request a grooming appointment for your pet online or just let us know at drop off if you would like to add a grooming service to their stay. Our goal is for your dog to feel like they’re on vacation too! Just like a luxury resort, we have add-ons and extras to make their stay the absolute best.

You can drop off as early as 7AM on your first day and pick us as late as 11AM on the final day of boarding. There will be a late charge of $22 to cover the half day of daycare on the last day if you pick up after 11AM. However, this fee will be waived if you add a bath or groom to their final day!

How old should my puppy be before he gets his first groom?

It is good to have your puppy become familiar with grooming as early as possible after their puppy shots, usually around 4 months old. This will help them learn at an early age that grooming is a pleasant experience.

How often do nails need trimming?

Generally a dog’s nails need trimming every 6 weeks.

We serve quality Diamond Naturals brand dog food, but you are always welcome to bring your pup's favorite food or treats from home.

Each dog will be assigned a cubby (14inH x14inW x1ftD). Please make sure bags/food containers will fit in their cubby.
